Dutch Oven Au Gratin Potatoes

I've cooked a number of potato dishes in a dutch oven--you can even bake potatoes in a dutch oven, just like you do in your oven in hour kitchen.  This is a delicious, easy recipe for making Dutch Oven Potatoes Au Gratin.

 

Dutch Oven Au Gratin Potatoes
Prep time: 20 mins
Cook time: 45 mins
Total time: 1 hour 5 mins
Ingredients
  • 8-10 potatoes, sliced thin
  • 3 tbsp. melted butter or margarine
  • 2 medium onions, sliced thin
  • 15 oz can of cheese soup
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup cracker or bread crumbs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
Instructions
  1. Put a little bit of oil in the bottom of the Dutch oven.
  2. Put a layer of potatoes in the bottom of the oven and brush with the melted butter. Season with salt and pepper, if you like.
  3. Next add a layer of sliced onions.
  4. Now, continue layering, alternating with potatoes and onions, until all are used.
  5. Mix the soup and milk and pour over the top.
  6. Sprinkle the crumbs over the top of the mixture
  7. Add any other seasonings that you desire.
  8. Put the Dutch oven over 6-8 briquettes and put 16-18 briquettes on the top.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove and sprinkle the top with the shredded cheese. Replace lid and let the cheese melt. This should take too long
  11. Serve!
